Star Style - Celebrity Mum Makeovers
Source MSN UK 12th March 09

Star Style
Victoria Beckham
Even with three young boys Mrs Beckham is always immaculately turned out. Bizarrely, Victoria says she sleeps in white cotton socks and gloves to halt the ageing process. She also takes great care with her eyebrows:
"I spend more time on them then I used to. I always thought, ‘Oh, they’re just brows.’ But now I pay attention to them. I brush them and I’m careful not to over-pluck."
Mum makeover
You may not fancy the idea of socks and gloves in bed, but you can treat yourself to a brow shaping session at a beauty salon. Eyebrows frame the face, and strategic shaping can take years off. Keep them neat with a pair of Tweezerman tweezers.

Star Style
Gwyneth Paltrow
She of the enviably slim figure has a secret weapon – Spanx. Even the rich and famous suffer from post-baby bulge, and Ms Paltrow claims to have worn two pairs of Spanx at the same time to keep her flesh contained.
Mum makeover
Childbirth and ageing will naturally cause a bit of sagging. If you don’t have time to devote to those gruelling fitness regimes favoured by the stars then cheat with slimming underwear. Today’s versions aren’t as scary as the girdles our grandmothers wore, and they work wonders in smoothing unsightly lumps and bumps.

Star Style
Kate Winslet
Doesn’t she look fab since she moved Stateside? That golden tan and those honey-coloured highlights make Kate look even younger than the pale English rose we remember from Titanic.
Mum makeover
A good tan can make anyone look younger and healthier, because it makes the eyes and teeth look whiter. Real sun and sunbeds are a no-no, of course, so cheat with a good fake tan. Make sure you exfoliate the skin well before applying, taking care to rub excess off your knees, elbows and palms.

Star Style
Kate Beckinsale
Another lady whose looks vastly improved when she crossed the pond. Kate swapped her pixie crop and pale skin for a glossy Hollywood mane and glowing tan when she moved to LA, but her dental work was the most effective makeover. That crooked British smile she had in Shooting Fish is now gleaming white and perfect, making her look more like a 25-year-old than a 35-year-old mum.

Teeth whitening is readily available now, and an easy way to look healthier and younger. Ask your dentist for laser whitening or try a home whitening kit. They’re very reasonably priced these days and you can get good results in a couple of weeks.

Star Style
Madonna
50 years old and dating a man half her age – the Material Girl has still got it. Yes, she does have a fantastic body, but that’s not the only reason Madonna looks younger than her years. She’s a master chameleon with her finger on the pulse of every new trend. By changing her look every once in a while she stays fresh and modern.
Mum makeover
Few mums have time for Madonna’s punishing yoga regimes, but a style overhaul is a bit easier to pull off. If you’ve been sporting the same hair and makeup for a decade then it’s time to change – what may have worked for you in your early twenties will almost certainly look tired and old-fashioned now. Browse fashion magazines for hot new accessories – it’s easier to update your look with a trendy bag or scarf than to buy a whole new wardrobe.

Star Style
Liv Tyler
Yummy mummy Liv was famed for her waist-length dark mane, unchanged since she appeared as a coltish teenager in those 80s Aerosmith videos. Following the stress of her divorce, Liv asked her hairdresser to lop off her hair – and a gorgeous new look was born.
Mum makeover
Long hair is wonderfully girlish, but can actually be a bit ageing on older women as it drags the face down. It also requires plenty of maintenance to look good – and what mum has time for monthly trips to the salon? Don't be scared to go shorter; it will take years off and be much easier to maintain.
